New Research Project

4 Sep 2016

Acuvet Biotech leads the research project “Development of automated analytical methods for the determination of biomarkers for the improvement of health in cattle”.

The project, performed in collaboration with the University of Zaragoza, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the company ZEULAB, has received a grant from the 2015 call for the COLLABORATION CHALLENGES program of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The program aims to promote technological development, innovation and research of quality through collaboration between academy and industry. It has a total budget of €521,622, co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The project aims to develop new tests to quickly and accurately determine the correct transmission of maternal immunity to the calf, through the ingestion of colostrum. This guarantees an adequate health status of the calf during the first stage of life. The project includes both, the development of new analytical methods and their validation in practice on livestock farms. The research team will also work on the development of new automated analytical systems for the measurement of acute phase proteins such us haptoglobin or ITIH4 in cattle. The project also includes studies about the practical application of the tests in the detection and monitoring of diseases such as metritis or subclinical mastitis.
