Measurement of ITIH4 and Hp levels in bitches with pyometra using newly developed ELISA methods.
In this study published in Veterinary Immunology Immunopathology an ELISA method for the determination of canine ITIH4 was developed for the first time. The tests performed confirm that ITIH4 increases in cases of pyometra.
E The study was carried out in collaboration with the University of Zaragoza and the University of Lublin. Two ELISAs for ITIH4 and haptoglobin, canine-specific, were developed and validated. ITIH4 is an important marker of inflammation in different species, mainly in the pig, where it is known as pig-MAP. The developed tests show adequate precision (intra- and inter-assay CV less than 10%), quantify proportionally in the working range and present analytical equivalence with the reference method (radial immunodiffusion). The analysis of a group of bitches affected by pyometra has confirmed that ITIH4 is a moderate acute phase protein in the canine species. The affected animals had very high levels of CRP (mean of 147 mg/mL, determined with our turbovet test), which indicates a strong inflammatory response. The haptoglobin concentration increased 7 times compared to a control group of healthy animals, and ITIH4 3 times.
